Once elected, Anita will focus on:
• Responsible stewardship of our land. • Protecting our rivers, springs and aquifer. • Controlling the selling or misappropriation of our precious land and water. • Promoting “green” jobs that focus on environmental protection. • Protecting the Bay. • Keeping our food local by implementing community gardens.
Anita was born in Detroit and grew up in a rock and roll radio station in Pennsylvania that her father owned; so news, media and music have always been an important part of her life.
After attending the University of Maryland where she studied English, Film and Journalism, Anita worked for Arbitron Radio Ratings in Maryland. Later she became a member of the AFL-CIO Local 25 Hotel and Restaurant Worker's Union and began a long history of social and political activism. She also worked with the Rainbow Push Coalition and other local Washington, DC organizations to assure that women and people of color were hired as servers in 5 star restaurants. After moving to Florida, Anita was one of the first organizers of Chapter 119, the Tampa Bay Veterans for Peace, Code Pink Tampa Bay, and the Tampa Bay Indymedia Collective.
Anita’s political activism continued in 2006 when she volunteered for the Kucinich for President 2008 Campaign as a member of his Virtual Outreach team eventually becoming an official member of the campaign staff. She then joined the Green Party in 2008 and served on the Board of Trustees for the Green Party of Florida and on the Media Committee and Women's Caucus for the Green Party of the United States. During Cynthia McKinney’s Presidential Campaign as the Green Party candidate in 2008, Anita was an official member of her Media Team.
Anita is a strong believer in working to change the course of our country by reforming our media and electoral processes and by using the Internet to organize Progressives, Independents and other Third Party voters on the issues. In the past, she has actively supported non-corporate "owned" Progressives, Independents and other Third Party candidates for local, state and federal offices.
